Blog Summary

Communication happens in some form or fashion on a constant basis. The billboard passed on the way to work every day that advertises the new florist’s shop communicates the determination of a small business to succeed and bring value and beauty with a personal touch to the community. That is just one example. Everything from body language to tone of voice and the words used all exemplify communication styles and may sometimes send conflicting messages. The successful communicator can take all of the different communication styles and conflicting messages and weave them into one strong, clear message. This blog will explore all the different aspects of communication by sharing insights, thoughts and opinions on communication theory and effective communication techniques.

Exploring the different forms of communication will require a few different techniques. There will be “formal” posts that have been previously submitted as written assignments for courses relating to Communication Studies. There will also be more “informal” style writings that contain more personal opinions and related experiences than formal writings contain. By combining formal research and informal opinions and experiences, the ideas and concepts discussed should receive a great deal of attention and leave room for reader comments and insights. The point is to inspire communication as much as theorize it!

The design of this blog will be a grid-based design. Grids offer an organized layout and clear visual paths that effectively communicate a page’s message to viewers (Hodge, 2008). All elements of page design from layout to theme and color schemes should effectively communicate the overall message of the page. This blog will present a professional image with an attentiveness to detail that will be appreciated by first time viewers, casual readers, page followers and professionals alike.
